Wake Forest Loses First Game and NJIT Snaps 51-game Losing Streak

Wake Forest Finally Loses
The #1 Wake Forest Deamon Deacons fell to unranked Virginia Tech last night. WF was the last undefeated team in D-1 college hoops. The Deamon Deacons were not expected to be a powerhouse this season, but lead by Jeff Teague this team looks as if they are serious contenders. Teague is a fantastic talent and is the complete package for Wake Forest. He is a great shooter, great athlete, has very quick hands, and a very good basketball instinct. Teague is accompanied by Al-Farouq Aminu a 6-9 ! freshman who is showing glimpses as a dominant big man. James Johnson is another big man who is a fantastic shot blocker and a great rebounder. WF looks like a serious contender to me, but we will see how they respond to their first loss. The ACC has some very good teams and Wake could slip behind teams like Duke and North Carolina. We will learn a lot about the mental toughness of this team in the next few weeks.

ACC vs Big East: Which conference is truly better?

There has been a lot of debate over which conference is better in college hoops. There is a solid case for both sides. The Big East is very deep with 8 teams likely to make the tournament, while the ACC is very top heavy and lacks depth. There is a notion out there that you judge a conference by its top 4 teams. The ACC has Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, and Clemson, while the Big East has Uconn, Pitt, Syracuse, and Marquette. The ACC top 4 is slightly better than the Big East top 4. The Big East then follows those teams with Louisville, Georgetown, Notre Dame, and Villanova. A week ago I would h! ave said the ACC was a better conference because of the top 4 theory, but now Wake Forest and Clemson have both lost. The Big East continues to show its depth and competitiveness with teams beating each other up. Clemson has started hot the past few years then faded. I do think they will be in the tournament, but not as a high seed. UNC I do expect to be a #1 seed eventually. Wake Forest will be a #1, #2, or #3 and the same goes for Duke. As of right now though, the Big East gets my vote for best conference mainly because of WF and Clemson slipping up. The Big East has depth and will have their top 8 teams in the tournament and that in itself is phenomenal.

NJIT Snaps 51-game Losing Streak
Normally you do not see a team celebrating a 1-18 record, but the NJIT Highlanders were doing just that the other day. NJIT had a 51-game losing streak an incredible statistic. They won 61-51 over Bryant University and then celebrated like they won the championship. A 51-game losing streak is unheard of in today's day and age. With the high level of competition it is shocking to see a team fail so miserable. Nonetheless the streak is over and we will likely not hear anything else about NJIT.
